The primary objective of the competition is to apply and innovate on the learning from the Home Automation System Project that students have developed as part of Skyfi Labs workshops and Online Project-based Courses.
The students are required to build an innovative Home Automation application in addition to executing a primary task.
The Home Automation System, which will be implemented inside a specific room, should do the following based on the number of people in the room.
The Automation System should be connected to a light (a bulb) that functions according to the following criteria.
Criterion 1: The light should be switched off in the default mode
Criterion 2: The light should switch on only when a person enters the room and remain on as long as the room is occupied by one or more persons
Criterion 3: The light should switch off soon after the room is empty
The participants can use any sensing mechanism to detect the presence of people inside the room. Refer to the next task and the rules for any queries regarding any limitations on technologies/components that can be used for implementing the task.
The participants can earn bonus points by designing and creating an application to display, on a remote phone, the number of people inside the room at any given time. The participants can use any wireless communication mechanism to implement the same.
In addition to the successful execution of the tasks mentioned above, the final Home Automation System will be judged on the basis of the implementation of more creative ideas that reflect our aim of implementing Automation systems.
The participants can Automate the system using different sensors, communication systems and actuators/loads.
Some of the more often used wireless communication protocols are Bluetooth, RF-based, Mobile Communication, WiFi, etc.
The judging criteria will be based on the working capability, innovation, application, feasibility and cost of the final project.
Primary Task – 80 points
Bonus Task – 40 points
Final Project – 80 points
Students qualified for the Finals should bring a printout of their Certificate of Completion while attending
