Today we are going to see how to build a solar-powered UPS. This solar-powered UPS can be used in case of power cuts. This can be a very good alternative to the inverter system charged through your main electric supply. You can convert your inverter using this technology and make it as a standalone system that can fully be powered through solar power.
Project Implementation
The solar UPS project is implemented in such a way that DC power charged through solar is converted to AC power. The solar panel is first used to power up a DC battery. Later on a step-up inverted will convert this DC power into AC and is supplied. The solar panel used here will charge a battery which uses 12vDC current. From the battery, the power is stepped up into an AC in a range of 140 – 150 V.

Solar panel: The solar panel used in the project should be capable of powering a 12v battery. The panel should be kept in an area where direct sunlight is available.
12 V DC battery: The solar panel is directly connected to a 12v DC battery.
Power inverter: The solar panel charges the battery through DC. The DC must be converted to AC before it is supplied to the mainline. The power inverter converts the DC from the battery into AC.
Step-up transformer: The battery we use here only has a 12V capacity. This is to be increased into a 140-150 V current. A step-up transformer is used to increase the voltage into this level. The output from this transformer can be used as the supply line that will power up the appliances completely from solar energy.
