HOW TO SELECT ESC FOR DC MOTOR

Brushed dc motor esc:

1. Brushed dc motor esc:This type of esc has two main input and output terminals. In the input side,it has one positive terminal and negative terminal which are has to be connected to the battery only.The one important thing here is, while connecting the esc to the battery you should make sure the positive terminal is connected to the positive terminal only and negative terminal is connected to the negative terminal only.But in the output side you can connect anything to any terminals of the brushed motor.So the motor will rotate either the clockwise direction or anticlockwise direction.If you want to change the motor direction you can swap the terminals which cause the motor direction changing. This type of esc also have the inbuilt voltage regulator which gives the 5 volts output for receiver and servo motor.Esc takes the PWM signal from the receiver,based on the signal it gets from the receiver it produces the output to motor.It has small three wire cable which are included the white or yellow colour is signal wire through which it takes the signal from the receiver , red colour is positive and black colour is negative which are gives the 5 volts to the receiver and the servos.Escs are comes with different type ampere rating which is return on it.
2. Brushless dc motor esc:Its similar to the brushed esc but the main difference is it has three output part which will be connected to the bldc motor.In the output side there is no any positive and negative terminal.Here you can make a connection anything to anything between the motor and esc.Again if you want to reverse the motor you need to swap any two output terminal of the esc to the motor.Here two type of esc are there, 1.Bec esc. 2.Opto esc. BEC (Battery Elimination Circuit) is comes along with the voltage regulator which regulates the input voltage into 5 volts which will be used for power up the receiver and servos.Mostly BEC esc used for rc models where any power sources is not available for power up the receiver and flight controller. Opto esc doesn't have any voltage regulator with it. This type of esc widely is used for drones where the separate power module is used for power up the flight controller.Also we can use this esc for rc models but only needed part is ubec for power up the flight controller, receiver and servos.
